Downtown Albany is an eclectic mix of historic charm and character with a growing mix of trendy businesses in an urban setting. A strong downtown association, city commitment to a new urban renewal district and a growing population all combine to create renewed energy in downtown.

Albany’s urban renewal district, the Central Albany Revitalization Agency (CARA), has made the downtown core a priority for early projects within the district. Funds for building rehabilitation, streetscape and special project have all been earmarked in the current CARA budget. Downtown is centrally located to growing populations in Linn and Benton counties. With an estimated population of 43,400 by 2005 and more than 80,000 in a 20-mile radius, Downtown Albany is positioned to serve a broad customer base.
